Let’s Take Flight: About Our Program Pillars

Our corporate giving partners activate lasting change while connecting their brands to a trusted nonprofit with proven impact. Together, there’s no limit to what we can do to advance pollinator conservation, ecological sustainability, and community resilience. By achieving our shared goals, we can further our innovative programs at the heart of our mission.

Bee Sanctuaries

Our Bee Sanctuaries (located at four NYC zoos, Governors Island, the Hell’s Kitchen Farm Project, Rocking the Boat in the Bronx, and Liberty Park at the World Trade Center) engage thousands of people annually through free educational events, public weekends from May to October, bee habitat creation, community science, and best-in-class beekeeping. Each year we deliver a combined  100+  educational events, public stewardship days, field trips for underserved youth, “Educate the Educator” workshops, and hands-on volunteer days.

Education & Mentoring

TBC delivers over 100 free educational events,  stewardship days,  youth field trips, and more, directly engaging community organizations and ~5,000 individuals annually. Our Bee a Buddy Book Bundles Ecoliteracy Program distributes our original comic — one of many educational assets we produce — to underserved schools and community groups. Our Food Justice, Master Beekeeper, and Seeds for Bees awards empower people whose work advances education, food security, and/or ecological and community resilience with supplies, training, and mentorship to keep bees, pollinator habitats, and surrounding ecosystems healthy.

Habitat Development

With an emphasis on urban agriculture and industrial landscapes, we create bee habitat that support pollinator populations and help prepare urban spaces for climate readiness. Since 2022, we’ve partnered with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to create perennial pollinator gardens on their lands, with a flagship collaboration t at Liberty Park at the World Trade Center. In 2024, we launched a native plant garden within the New York City Housing Authority providing tools, training, and supplies to the resident-led garden at Brooklyn’s Farragut Houses.

Community Science

Through our community science initiatives, we bridge a crucial data gap and facilitate research in underrepresented areas in datasets. We engage the public through data collection events, where together we photograph local insect populations and upload them to the iNaturalist app, which scientists and researchers worldwide leverage. Monitoring protocols that track pollinators help us collect pivotal program impact metrics, support research, and paint a portrait of biodiversity in under-represented urban centers. Data collection will help us develop alternative strategies to honey bee hives in urban food-growing spaces, improving biodiversity and eliminating barriers to access posed by the cost and management needs posed by beekeeping.

Our Supporters

We recognize that no single organization can drive change alone.

The transformations we aim to achieve worldwide require multiple stakeholders’ collective efforts. Here, we highlight a selection of partnerships from our network that have significantly impacted our programs and the communities we support.
