The Native Bee House by The Bee Conservancy
Home is where the heart is—and that’s going to be especially true for bees across the United States and Canada.

We’re thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2020 Sponsor-a-Hive program, a wide range of schools, gardens, and community groups willing to open their hearts and roll up their sleeves to help build a more sustainable future.

TBC’s flagship program gifts bee homes, equipment, and educational support to awardees, and for the 2020 award focused exclusively on native bee homes. This emphasis comes at a critical time: in the midst of an environmental crisis that has left one in four of North America’s 4,000 bee species at risk of extinction. The Sponsor-a-Hive program gives local communities a chance to protect the keystone species that are responsible for pollinating one-third of the food we eat and lie at the heart of countless ecosystems — all while bolstering local ecology, food production, educational programs, and community resilience.

Designed with sustainability, bee health, and user-friendliness in mind, The Bee Conservancy’s exclusive bee house design is constructed with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, sustainably-sourced pine. The houses are manufactured by Brooklyn Woods, an organization that trains unemployed and low-income New Yorkers for woodworking careers. (Read about our collaboration with them here!)

The Bee Conservancy wishes to thank everyone who applied, and extend a reminder that applications are now open for the 2021 Sponsor-a-Hive award, which is also for native bee houses, through this link. And note: the previous requirement to include the 510c3 number or the Canada Revenue Agency Registration Number proving nonprofit status has been lifted.
